Is this Salary Search result more along the lines of what you're expecting in Tallahassee?
www.indeed.com/salary?q1=Security+Officer&l1=Tallahasse%2C+FL&tm=1

Something to consider when looking at the top average figure on the Indeed Salary Search is that it is including ALL jobs that have "Security Officer" located in the job title. So this would include job titles like "Chief Security Officer" which will of course help increase the total average. For more specific job salary averages take a look at the average salaries of jobs with related titles which are listed below the top average figure.

You are so right Raymond. Security is a profession that's not to be taking likely.

How can you keep the right security officer working at your post when his company short pay him, doesn’t give him the training required by his client or forget to pay a week of his pay or when he has to come to work every day wearing the same old uniform for the past two years? I say you get why you pay for it don’t expect this officer to keep the good name or professional image of the company. Are they all the same USSA-Securitas-Wackenhunt?

I was just hired as a CPO by Wackenhut in Fairfax VA, starting pay is $15 an hour with full benefits. I also get to take my service weapon home. If you have a security clearance you can make a lot more around here, usually over $20 an hour and up.

Check out this salary survey regarding jobs that require security clearance. Also a little comparision between cleared and uncleared salaries. Pretty interesting.

Security, believe it or not, is a profession. You can make 8,000 a year or 90,000 a year. You just have to prepare yourself for the opportunities.
I am making over 50,000 a year.

NO, it is not. Do they pay for legal services if you get in a jam. How about compensation for equipment and medical. MOST OF ALL.. Does your company have a retirement package. I don't meen some silly ass 401K. I am talking about a pension. If not, you do not have a profession bub. You got a job! Just because you make a lot of money does not mean it's a profession.

I agree with your comment. Security is supposed to be a profession. You are most of the time a chess peace that will help reach the goal of making the company money that you will never see. I have been in this field a very short time. I plan on staying there but will continue to search for that real professional company.

Security is what you make of it. What company you work for, and what your benefits are. If you spend twenty years making eight to ten dollars per hour, it's your own fault.

If you get your military service in, further your education to a four-year degree, and take some professional classes, and get on with a good company, then yes, you'll have a profession.

Those of you who will not commit to the above, no you don't have a profession. All you have is the sorry-a$$ company that you work for, IMO.

Security Officer's Salaries?
Now that can be a short in pay subject! lol

In areas of Nashville & counties close in TN.:
Unarmed licensed:
From $7.50 to $8.50hr.
rarely $10.00hr., mostly a rover/flex/floater

Armed: average most outfits $10.00 to $11.30
CPO= Custom Protection Officer: from $10.00hr. onward, most around $14.00 hr, depends on your post

I did a check for Nashville & surrounding counties online security officer's salaries goes average $12.43... average

Good luck getting that much in an interview!

I had 1 new security company call me just recently wanted me to work o/s mall property armed for $8.00hr. max. pay & I furnished my weapon & all equipment.

I'm sorry folks but there is no way me furnishing all equipment & me drive that far to & from, after taxes I believe I'd be in the hole shortly.

If you want to be in security & are young enough, my suggestion is government security jobs.

On the other hand if you are out of the stated advertising ages group, per gov't you are chit out of luck.

I thought age discrimination was against the federal law?
How you like this one?
hummm... must be only for the few.

Ive worked for just about all the "big name" security companies. Securitas, Wells Fargo/Borg Warner, Command Security, Wackenhut, Pinkerton and etc. And to be honest everyone of the companies are a joke.
The worse thing about these security jobs are the "wannabe" hot shot "SECURITY OFFICERS" that have taken the home correspondence private investigator courses. These are the ones who have "rank" and have let it go to their heads and are a complete PITA to deal with on a daily basis.
Over the years ive learned that if you ask someone what they do and they say "im a security guard" for the most part they are okay and easy to deal with. But on the other hand if you ask a person what they do and they stand up straight and look you dead in the eye and use a serious tone of voice to say "IM A PROFFESIONAL SECURITY OFFICER" then you are dealing with a power tripping idiot.

Hello West:
I read your officer vs guard situation.
I too have worked in security for gov't & one or two of those private security company deals.
Most of those private security managers are people with either criminal justice courses or whatever else they believe they are.
A lot are just plain full of themselves!
Have you ever looked up the definitions of guard vs officer?
I did once.
So the next time one of those professionals stand up & tell you they are officers then ask them what the difference is?
I rather doubt any of them will know.
According to Mr. Webster:
guard = To watch over or shield from danger or harm; to keep watch as to prevent escape, violence, or indiscretion. A defensive position.
officer = A person who holds a title, position of authority, or office; a policeman.
Tell those Professional Security Officers they aren't the police.
I've heard a few of those quotes myself in the past but I usually stopped & looked at the source, shook my head & got as far anyway from those people as I could before they got me hurt.

FBI, Border Patrol & most others in federal gov't has an age limit.
I read long ago there was a federal law stating something about age discrimination.
But then again I suppose the laws are written for only the few, their laws do not apply to their ownselves or most other government jobs.
So if a person fails under their regulated age limits you are okay, if not they say.. Oh Well! You're just chit out of luck!
Also if I'm not mistaken FBI requires either a law degree or close to it now.

I work in Disney Security and have been for 4 yrs. I make way over 7.50 hr. you must have not spent anytime there, I looked around and you know what? Disney is paying more for less work than most other companies that aren't armed. Get a grip!

I've been a Security Officer for 18 years. I've worked in both Government and private. Refering to yourself as an "Officer" doesn't have to mean you're an a-hole. I'm quite easy to get along with. I just have enough respect for myself and my profession to assign the proper terminology.

Kevin, I totally agree, when I worked at a warehouse in security people would always tell me how nice and cordial i was but when it was time to be "not so nice" I was there for that too. I guess that why I came to Disney, There I can treat people as nice as can be until they don't deserve it then I put the proverbial foot down. But right now I am exactly where I want to be. And to the guy above that commented about Minnie and Mickey...Hey Be Bice To My Boss!!! LOL!

lol.. I am nice!
I told ya' I like Minnie.. She has nice ears!
Mickey is a nice dude also or was that Mighty Mouse? lol

As far as the definitions for officer vs guard I was referring to Mr. Webster dictionary.
I took the definitions from Webster. This wasn't my own definitions.
After working for the gov't for so long, there after going into private security, it took some getting use to for me when people started calling me a guard. I hated that word.. guard.
It made me feel as though I was being insulted or being degraded for awhile.
Then again I simply looked at the type & or source this came from.
But... hey! ... Sa La' Vee ... Life Goes On!
