What state do yo want to live and work in. Have you taken any of the National Certifications? i.e., ASCP AAB, AMT, etc? |
|
JMiller in Long Beach, California 22 months ago |
You will need to check with each state's licensing requirements. I believe New York requires that you pass the New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License Exam. Most hospitals also prefer applicants to have passed national certifications, i.e., ASCP Most hospitals post their job openings on their website. You should do as follows:
All the best. |

H1 – B Transfer Your H-1B can be transferred through the new company. Your new company files an application with the INS, for your H1 transfer. You might be asked to submit the following documents:

Frequently Asked Questions regarding H1-B Transfers: I am currently on H-1B through Company A. I am considering another offer from company B. Do I need a new H-1B? When can I start working for company B?
Upon approval of H1 transfer, is there any time limit to join the new company?
I just got my approval notice for my H-1B transfer. It doesn't have a new I-94. What should I do?
Do you need to inform your present employer about your Visa Transfer? Is there any way that my current employer can come to know about my H1b transfer?
Is there any limit for number of H1 transfers?
Can a person apply for H-1 transfer through more than one company at the same time?
What if a person holding a H1 for Company A, applies for H1 transfer through Company B, and once the transfer is approved, he changes his mind and doesn't join this company B? Can he continue to work for his previous company A?

Thank you for your kind comments. Please don't let "hearsay" ever discourage you; impossibilities can and do happen. Although most hospitals may prefer to hire MTs who are already here, they still need to fill the high demands. If they have several MT positions open and not enough people to fill them, they will have to sponsor. It is also about having connections, people you know in the industry and working at hospitals. The main issue is, your US status need to be current, i.e., if you are here on a tourist visa, with validity of 6 months, you need to find employment within that time frame. There are also several reference laboratories who do provide employment sponsorships. It would also be beneficial if you have the ASCP certification designation.

I just noticed that you are located in Bacolod City. There was an immigration seminar sponsored by the Law Offices of Gail Koren, (her main office is in California) on Jan 17 at the L'Fisher Hotel, Bacolod City. Please note that I have no affiliations and or association with this law firm, I simply saw their ad in the Philippine Balita. The seminar may serve as informative. They listed a local number 09172444722 |

This would depend on several factors:
Below is a link from the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science, which covers your inquiry regarding ASCPi certification and employment. |

There are no published statistics on the number of companies that sponsor. Therefore, one cannot accurately answer whether there are "many" companies who sponsor foreign MTs. There are definitely companies willing to sponsor. Hiring policies, practices and flexibility differ from one company to the next. |

nicole 21 months ago |
to christine from dubai, when you look for a job online, make sure that the hospital/institution is non-profit so they will be excempt from the annual H1B cap. also, try looking for an immigration lawyer or someone who is familiar with H1B processing so he/she can discuss matters of sponsorship with the HR and Lab Manager. most employers back out due to their impression of a complicated process. legalities have to be explained to them since petition require information from sponsoring instituion like income, tax, etc. and this will require paperworks and they hate paperworks! |

New York State Clinical Laboratory Technology Licensure Process
Determine which “Method†classification your experience falls under. (Most people select “Method 10â€) When applying to take the ASCP exams, there are four options which you can select for ASCP State Licensure Qualifying Exams
Option 1 allows you to take the ASCP Exam for the purposes of Licensure in the State of New York. This will allow you to obtain the required license to work in the state. Please note that successful passing of the exam under OPTION 1, will NOT provide you with an “ASCP Certified†title. If you have local laboratory experience as required by the ASCP, you can choose OPTION 2, which will allow you to obtain a License AND the ASCP Certification title. If you have additional questions, you can send us an email at: info@AmericanMedical.org or visit our website at: |

I just recently graduated as an MT, and was offered a position in a 200 bed hospital. The only problem is that it is a day shift, and the lab director is expecting me to rotate thru all departments while there will only be two other techs there. That doesnt bother me but she also wants help with cap and procedures because she is the lab director of two hospitals in two different cities. She only offered me 17.00 dollars an hour, which dont get me wrong i am not complaining since i just graduated but it seems a little short for the responsibilities. Anyone disagree? |
|

For California standards, the $17.00 hourly rate seems incredibly low. You'll need to do some research and know your worth. Your skills and knowledge are invaluable to the health care community. The laboratory personnel shortage is critical and MTs are in demand; the shortage will continue for many years. A new grad should know what the local competition is paying. Surveying Salaries. Quantifying what you can bring to the table takes research – You’ll need to do your homework. You can learn of average starting salaries for someone with your experience and geographic location through several sources. Call local facilities, ask about salaries where you do clinical rotations and question recruiters at job fairs. Other sources for salary information include the ADVANCE Salary Survey results posted online and ASCP's Wage and Vacancy Survey. Recent grads can also ask their medical technology professors for starting salaries within their geographic area. Additionally, laboratory managers will often provide salary information if asked. After your research, enter into negotiations, provide examples to support your salary requirements. In light of the personnel shortage, new grads have more flexibility in negotiating salary. However, even with the shortage, just how much neogtiation leeway you have depends on the level of previous work experience. Employers will evaluate your work experience and factor in knowledge of a special technique or procedure. For example, someone who worked for several years as a medical lab technician, then went back to school to earn his BS should earn a higher starting salary than someone with a year of clinical rotation experience. Negotiations also depends on the type of facility; for instance, one located in a medically underserved area versus a metropolitan hospital and whether the facility is advertising. |

Don't take the job. For the amount of work she wants you to do, it's not worth it. |

Hi, I am working as medical technologist too under H1B visa. I dont have any problems with the company that I am in now but they are not sure whether they will sponsor me for change of status which really bothers me. I have talked to several of my friends who were here a couple of years ago and they told me that they were sponsored three months after they started working in their respective companies.

As far as I know, you cannot work with the H4 visa (this is the visa you get when your spouse is working and you are a dependent, right?). But go ahead and keep looking for jobs, because some organizations will be willing to help you transfer from an h4 to an h1 visa when they hire you. Always best to let the organization know of your legal status because if they really want you to work for them, they will help you process the legalities. |

As far as I know, the ascpi taken by international students is equivalent to the ascp taken here locally in the usa. And so I dont see why a state where the ascp is sufficient would not accept the ascpi. So yes, I do think you'd be okay looking for jobs in other states too with the ascpi. But dont take my word for it, always check with different employers in different states to see what they are looking for in their employees. |

Some certifying agencies include ASCP or NCA or AMT. ASCP offers the ASCPi exam for international applicants. Being certified with these agencies would certainly increase your chances of getting a job here. |

what is the requirement band for ielts to process my visa screen in us |
|
Dipa in Irving, Texas 9 months ago |
For starters, you need to get certified as a medical technologist. There are various organizations through which you could get certified, some of the more recognized ones are the ASCP ( www.ascp.org/FunctionalNavigation/certification.aspx ) and the NCA ( www.nca-info.org/applicants/index.asp ). Passing these exams and getting certified will allow you to process a visa screen certificate from the CGFNS ( www.cgfns.org/ ). This visa screen certificate is now required by law from all international applicants wanting to process an H1 work visa in order to work as a medtech here in the usa. Once you have your visa screen certificate, the company that is hiring you can help sponsor your h1 visa. I am currently going through this process myself. Let me know if you have questions. I know how frustrating it can get. Hi!
I will be thankful to hear from you. Sincerely
