There are Bad Brokers out there that will steal your customers once your sign on agreement contract is out... READ YOUR CONTRACT WITH A LAWYER!!! Before you sign it!!! And there is no promise on BIG money in this business, this type of work can be rewarding but it takes a long time to get where you want to be... To find out more give us a call <contact information removed> Please do not post your contact information on forums, please update your profile if you want to contact other forum users. |

Yes, do your homework. Check out whomever is suggesting that they can teach you. Google their name. See what articles or books they have written. If they have a school, is it approved to do business in their state? Do they advertise in the main stream media (trucking mags, tradeshows, google ads, etc.) These things would suggest that the company is above board and more capable of providing the necessary skill set that this job demands. No one is giving away something for nothing. Everyone is in business to make a profit, if they are not than they will not be in business long. This is not something you are going to be able to research in a week. Take some time and do it right. Spending a little money on training doesn't ensure success, and neither does spending a lot. |

I have been selling freight for 5 years.
When i started i got some basic training took about 5 hours and I hit the phone running. Its all up to you. If you have what it takes and not afraid to dial the phone you will be find freight. I would be willing to teach anyone who is interested in working in freight bus sines. Free of charge YES free of charge. I will spend few hours per week on the phone training people how to sell freight. Then you can consider your options where you want to work and how you want to set up your office. |

Do not spend money to train to become an agent or a broker!!! Contact Transportation Managers at manufacturers, produce growers, lumber companies, etc. tell them you are interested in moving their products and ask what are their lanes and what type of trucks do they require. Next you contact trucking companies that operate in the lanes of the transportation managers with the required types of trucks. Now you can contact a company to become an agent because you have some loads and trucks possibly lined up. Once you can successfully do this as an agent, then you may want to consider starting your own brokerage which can be done with little to no experience. |

Too many people are getting into this business thinking all they have to do is get 25 loads and make $50 per load everyday and make $1250 per day. That probably won't happen, but you could definitely do it over 2,3 or 4 days. $1250 for 4 days work for a newbie. I recently met a young lady with a dispatch service charging $250 /truck / week and she is dispatching about 10 trucks. There are different ways to make it in this business, but you have to start somewhere, success doesnt happen over night, but it will happen in this business. Go park by the interstate and count the tractor trailers that pass in 1 hour. Why cant you have freight on one of those trucks????? YOU CAN!!!!! |

I have been in this business with authority since April 15, 1999. To anyone that will listen, DO NOT BUY TRAINING CLASSES from people like IXL. You dont have to be a TOP GUN (I was a BOTTOM GUN, submarine logistics), but you do have to support yourself and your family. This is a great business to work from home, but you have to work it. IXL save your inquiries for someone else, I'm from the old school and it is easy. Do you offer anything for free? Of course not, you make a living off of selling your course with no follow up. Only to collect dust with Teach Me To Trade, How To Buy Real Estate. |

Courtenay , You think freight is not affected by the volatile market?
A few questions and things to know Call a freight broker in your home town offer to buy him lunch
Understand most brokers want you to have a book of business are you bond able?
Most brokers work on a 10 to 15 margin Shippers will want 30days plus to pay ....trucks like payment in 14 to 20 days can you pay your trucks on time ? In these hard time if you were an OWNER/OPERATOR would you take a load from a new broker with no industry credit or would you ask for your money before you move the load? Can you pay all your bills for at least 90 days ? plus the new business expenses > load boards, phone , health insurance? Understand that freight rates are at all time low ....that we have about 42,000 less trucks on the road than a year ago ..That
That break even for a carrier is about 1.12 a mile and some freight today on the boards at 80 cents and less some at 60cents do the math average haul is 800 miles x 1.oo per mile = 800.00
your profit is 80.00 most brokers work on a 60/40 split so you gt as an agent 48.00 broker gets 32.00 now how many loads do you need to book to pay all your bills ? Also know that the average freight agent is about 21,000 dollars
But it is also a time of great opportunity for those wiling to work hard !!!! and understand that you have to think outside the box to make it . What worked 5 years ago finding shippers no longer works ..... |

Hey Load it, I just got started in this business a few months ago with no training, I am a A-ganger (Submarines), I was introduce in this business by a family member, he is a trucker. I have not been doing too well, probably in need of more training. Are you able to help a fellow Submariner out? MM1(SS) |

I have been on here without a name change and so has IXL I have never met him in person but I have spoken to him etc. I don't have a book for sale or do I sell training but I have taken several expensive training courses that didn't live up to the hype and smaller courses that just taught what can be had for free. But I wanted to make sure I had all the information I could afford. I never purchased a book from IXL because when I met him I already was a broker. I have given my information away for free. I have told how to and where at. I have only mentioned on this forum training that truly ripped people off. I think you are one of those people that ripped me off and now you are using another name. So I mention it now because you are scared that rob is taking your rip off business away from you. |

One more comment on training call and talk to anyone you are going to get training from or who you are going to buy a book from. If your going to bash a persons training make sure you really know them and you have called them and spoken to them first. If you are truly riped off then you can post about it but just to assume that any one that writes a book or offers a class is a rip off is nuts. Some people can afford a high price school others a book. But no one can really expect all their training for free. They should expect outlines of freight brokering for free. They can also get all the information for free at a cost of time getting and sorting this information. Even some trainers have posted information that is not the truth so find out all you can and enjoy the ride its worth it in the end. |
