What is the best toothpaste to use for someone builds up stain quickly? A smoker, tea, soda, or coffee drinker? |

An electric toothbrush and unwax floss works well. Here is an old remedy I got from my grandma and Oprah (lol), baking soda. Because there is no flouride in baking soda I tell my pts to buy baking soda toothpaste. I also tell pts they can dip their toothbrush in baking soda and then put toothpaste on it (that helps kill the taste). |

I had an elderly man who brushed with salt and he had beautiful white teeth. I have never tried it but he said when he grew up salt was all they had and he just stuck with it. I also recommend baking soda. Good tip. |

Also, talk to the patient about doing the homecare AFTER (breakfast, lunch, dinner): soda, smoking.....because the less plaque that is on the teeth, the less you may see the stain. I personally like the A&H products. The taste is a little salty, but it contains Flouride and your teeth feel like you just came from your Hygiene appt. Bring a brush to work, for a quick brush even if it's not as thorough (sp?) as you'd like. Pt.'s responsibility to help in maintaining plaque, stain , tarter levels unless they want to find maybe a "heavier hand " at hygiene appts. |
