Am looking for a job as a care giver

I am looking for a job as caregiver / compannion. I am 59 yrs young and have a lot to give. I have woked with 2 alzhimers patients over the past 6 yrs. Prior to that , I worked as an office admin. for about 25 yrs.

I am on Social Security Disability and can not do heavy lifting. My previous duties included the following:
Bathing, food preperation, light household duties, shopping. My last position was a sleep over position.

I am available to travel if necessary. Ideally, I would like to find a position with a patient that is ambulatory. Also, I am very good with children. I have one 13 yr old grandson.

I have experience with little children as a Sunday School Teacher teaching Christian faith to children of ages 2-19 years old. I have been teaching infant classes year 6 to year 13 as a special reading teacher.
My experience with the elderly was when I always helped nurse my invalid grandfather.
I also nursed my mother in law until she passed away.
I have never applied for a Visa in the USA

I've known people who were caregivers, so I do know something about this industry. If you're looking for a caregiver job, check the Sunday newspaper under the Medical Careers section. There are ALWAYS jobs for caregivers, respite providers, and "personal coaches," for individuals with disabilities, those who are aged. You will also see adverts for vocational training -school programs where you can earn your Medical Assistant certification, which will enable you to earn a better living than if you were an uncertified caregiver. This may be the better choice, as the schools provide Federal financial aid, scholarships and living expenses until you graduate, and will sometimes defer loan-repayment for six months, to allow you time to find a job. If you contact a company that is credible, be prepared to provide legal work documents, and to also submit to a background and credit check, as well as a drug screening. Some states also permit polygraph testing-a lie detector test- on employees, thou, I've never actually heard of it being used. The good companies do stringent checks because it protects them and you from accusation of wrong-doing; such as theft, abuse, etc. This industry has a surprising number of ex-prison inmates working for it because the work can be very difficult (lots of heavy lifting, toileting/bathing the client, etc.) but jobs are plentiful and so this is sometimes a good way for immigrants coming to the US to get a career foothold here. Unfortunately, the pay for an uncertified caregiver is only slightly better than what you'd make working in the fast food or retail industry, usually around $10-$12/hour; less if you board-in. It's unforgiving work and you have to be one of those people who has a lot of patience and respect for the elderly or infirm. Best of luck!
