Does anyone think resume design is more important than content? |

I've always focused on the content, rather than the design of the resume. As good as I feel my resume is, I'm still not getting calls to setup interviews. So obviously, something's not working. Any tips on designs that work, would be greatly appreciated. I found a site called Not Your Average Resume, and they seem to have some pretty nice resume templates. Have you found any others like this? Would you pay for a nice template? |

I would not pay for a nice template because there are many available for free on the Internet. I have used several sample resumes in the past from Career Builder, About.com, and Monster. I don't know if you are using Microsoft Office or not, but there are some nice templates included with Office. Just make sure that everything is lined up neatly, all of the bullet points are there, and spacing between sections, lists, etc. is even. I also think that content is almost more important than the format. Your resume content should show that you are beyond a shadow of a doubt the most qualified person for the job. Make absolute certain that there are no spelling and grammatical errors on your resume. Make sure to fill your resume with key words pulled from the job description so that your resume will make it past any software that may be scanning it. |

Oh jeez don't pay for a template -- that's not very smart. If you really want to pay for help, make an investment in a professional resume writer. I found mine through the NRWA site. |

Thanks for this! Here is a link to the The National Resume Writers' Association (NRWA) website for anyone interested: Allan in Scottsdale, Arizona said: Oh jeez don't pay for a template -- that's not very smart. Everyone has their own opinion on how a resume should look. There are many hard and fast rules of what not to do. As long as your resume is free of errors, has a compelling message and you are able to confidently sell what you have written, your resume is most likely in good order. |
