I need an extra income. I am thinking about home/office organizing service for busy people.
I believe it can be successful I just do not know how to start. It so difficult to make a first move -getting a first client & completing the job &making a client happy. Or maybe I am thinking too much? Maybe I have just to go ahead and learn from mistakes?
I have basic knowledge of a space planning (I went to an interior design school years ago).
I do not know what to charge... There are just a few "organizing ladies" in our area - they are doing it for years and charge minimum $35 per hour. I am thinking about $12-$15 per hour to start, just to get a hand of it....
Any advice, comments? Thank you....

My advice would be to charge what you really think you are worth. While it is tempting to offer really low rates and things like free consultations, those tactics can also backfire and cause people to doubt your abilities. Getting that first client is tough but if you do a great job on that first project and fix any mistakes, it can lead to referrals. Search online for professional organizers, there's got to be an association of some kind, find one in your area and see if they would be open to an informational interview. Study all you can about your profession before getting that first job so that you feel confident about your abilities and your hourly rates. Do you have friends or family who will let you organize their spaces? This would be a great opportunity to get some practice and build a portfolio. Best of luck to you!
