Congratulations Paul, my husband who is an Electrician went out to Houston on 31st May and flew out from Houston via Altanta to Dubai on Monday of this week and arrived Baghdad the early hours of Tuesday morning. He will be in Camp Liberty in Baghdad for approx 2 weeks for training and then he gets sent to whichever camp he is going to be at. Be prepared for very long days in Houston, he left Belfast at 111am on Sunday morning and arrived in Houston on Sunday evening at around 8pm (about 2am our time). He had to go to the processing centre for 7am on the Monday morning and wasn't back to the hotel until the Monday evening. You need to have all your documents for the processing on Monday morning, passport, drivers licence, copy of your electrical certificates etc etc. Have you received the pack from KBR yet, it's about 30 pages of things, make sure you read it as it gives you all the info you need for Houston and when you get to Iraq.
If you go onto the Salaries, Bonus and Benefits page you will get loads of info there, there is loads of pages but if you work your way back this will answer loads of questions for you and some of the people there work or have worked for KBR.
You won't get your flight details until a few days before so don't panic!!! My friends husband may be going on 5th July as well, he's also a spark!

Hi Paul yes my husband spoke to his recruiter once i think, that was just to offer him the job but everything else was via email. Get your police disclosure done asap, if you haven't got that you'll be put back to the next processing date. My husband only got his on the Thursday and he was flying out on the Sunday, it only took his a week or so to come through but don't know if that is the norm or if it is different in Scotland.

Cheers for that. Think I’m getting messed around. have been onto them since Christmas. They told me to go uk and get JIB done that and cost me a heap with flight, acc and one training course. Qualified Electrical site supervisors, security, data comms, and a few other things.

She told me she would contact me in a week, but that was nearly 3weeks ago. Don’t want to run any chance I have. Badly stuck for a job. Lost my electrical business.

Cheers Buddy

They are pretty strict with JIB cards, my friend has been an electrician all his life, but never applied for his JIB card, he applied for it and got turned down because he hasn`t got a NVQ3, so they gave him a trainee card, so KBR couldn`t employ him, he came so close.

I`ve read alot of these forums, and it seems like they are traying to ramp up standards to 17th edition, hence why they are insisting on JIB cards.

I hope everything goes well

hi, i'm in t1 at tallil at the moment, if i had any advice it would be to bring everything you need, you can get stuff here at the px but its expensive, especially laptops, digital cameras etc.
the dont sell ant or fly spray so might be worth bringing some.
get yourself a hat with a brim around, they'll have you wearing a kbr baseball cap at first but after a while get your hat embroideed with kbr logo for a couple of bucks and wear that, it'll really help with the heat.
get your packing right and your laughing, i would buy boots over here $90 but they are great for this enviroment, my uk boots rubbed me raw in 2 days.
bring a pair of trainers for the gym, work pants that are hard wearing but not too thick and plenty of work t shirts.
leave all your fancy gear at home you won't be needing it, after a 12 hour shift most people go to eat then back to their chu or the gym. internet is $88 a month, you can pick up a tv, when you get here, make sure your staying at your site before buying things as people get moved a lot.
just show up on time , do as they say and you'll be fine.
they will shepherd you till your on site then you tend to have to hit the ground running.
A word of advice regarding tax. as you have probably heard kbr might lose the contract in september and the opinion floating round is that they are flooding the job to try and get it finished, many believe there will be big lay offs in september onwards.
if this is the case and you return to the uk you will be liable for tax on earnings, i would hang fire with the p85 as it doesn't have to go in yet , if it goes **** up tell the tax man you've been on holiday.
the current exchange rate is giving us about 5700 pounds for a 4 week month, not great for 84 hours but hey it all depends whats on offer at home.
hope this helps.
oh yes you cant use the mail so don't expect to send or recieve anything once you leave.
good luck , see u soon, if i can help with anything else feel free to ask.

sweed, what do you mean you cant use the mail? Is that just a British thing? I send stuff all the time and he sends stuff to the kids. That sounds just too weird !! If thats the case find a nice American that will send and receive for you !!!

its to do with foreign nationals, they can't use the mail. fedex want $40 a letter.
your right the americans are great and can send mail for you, they have to put their address as a return address and depending on the people in the post office you sometimes have to wait outside !
not sure about famiy in the uk sending packages as they would have to send them to an apo address ? i thin they would be charged the rate to send to the sorting office in the us ?. i will check up on that.

I was just wondering about how long does it actually take on average to get a call back after putting in your application. Also, should you put in an application for every job req or just one?
